Sitting in their living room, the young newlyweds found themselves sprawled across their small excuse for a couch.
"So your parents left for Alaska today?" asked the new Mrs.Carter.
"That's what they texted me earlier..." stated her husband, Mason.
"Why Alaska? It's so frigid, and those glaciers must get tiring after the... what? Sixth trip they've taken there?"
"They think it's pretty. I know they wanted to buy a house up there a few years ago."
"I actually think you had mentioned that, way back when."
"Probably. They've been talking about it since we were in high school."
"That was only two and a half years ago, you know," Emma replied as she got up to pick up the random blankets laying on the green-ish colored carpet. she proceeded to fold them.
Straightening himself up, Mason acknowledged her comment.
"You know, we never really saw anyone besides each other since we were almost sixteen..." she continued, "Do you ever worry that this is just us living out our fantasies of being high school sweethearts?"
"Geez, Emma, your psych classes are getting to you, huh? Don't worry, I doubt a phase would last out these almost 5 years," he reassured her.
He turned the TV on, checking for any new shows as the clock struck 9:00 that evening.
"Dammit. Man U is still down... Who even likes Bayern anymore?"
"Do we have to watch more soccer? Like honestly?"
"It's not like we are having any new conversations, dear."
"Alaska was new!"
"You brought it up after I had already told you this morning? How much more discussing do we need?"
Emma took her natural defensive state,"Well, it's something to talk about, now isn't it? Are we just going to grow old unhappy, watching soccer, and gaining weight? It's only been two months and we've lost it!"
Mason studied her face before speaking,"Lost it?"
Emma couldn't stand to even look at him.
"What do you mean 'lost it'? Emma, please, don't get irrational.... You know I love you."
She stood with her back to him.
"Please babe? I don't want you feeling like that."
Mason reached for her hand, dangling limply at her side. Upon his touch, Emma sprung around, "Ha! I had you concerned for a minute! You really believed me! I should have been an actress; Forget grad school!"
Mason was stunned silent.
"I really surprised you, huh? I was just playing, you don't actually think I'd get that bored or irrational with you, did you?"
"Well, I kind of hate you right now."
"Oh come on, I love you, how about we finish watching Manchester make a comeback? Just because I scared you."
Emma cuddled up next to Mason in their little apartment, on their old couch, and fell asleep in the seventy-fifth minute.
